Scott repairing a machine

Talk about a sewing miracle!

Despite facing extreme damage from the tornado, one resilient sewing machine made its way to our shop. With Scott's magic touch, dedication, and some much-needed TLC, this machine has been transformed from a tornado survivor to a sewing superstar!

When the machine arrived, it was covered in dirt, grass, and even bits of insulation. But Scott rolled up his sleeves, got to work, and made sure every part was shining bright again. And guess what? The customer picked it up yesterday, and it looks and runs like a brand-new machine!

Sewing machine before and after repair

Tips to keep you in tip top shape!

  1. Please do not sew over pins if you can avoid it. You risk breaking a needle, which could fly in your face or cause a burr on the hook. If you have a broken needle, be sure to find and remove all broken pieces.

  2. Change your needle regularly. At least with every project if not more frequently. The picture to the right is of an old needle and a new needle. You can see that the needle on the left has a very bent tip. Imagine that punching holes through your fabric with every stitch...

  3. Be sure to dust and oil your hook regularly. Your machine is made of lots of parts that need maintenance, just like your car. Just as oil in your car is essential, so it is in the hook of your machine. Dusting is just as important. A soft brush can help clear out accumulated lint and ensure you have the best possible stitch quality between services.

  4. If your needle gets jammed in your fabric, loosen the needle clamp that holds the needle on the needle bar to remove the jammed needle. Do not use the hand wheel to pry the needle out. It may cause your machine to go out of time or damage the hook of your machine.

  5. Never use abrasives on the outer covers or touchscreen. Any type of mild cleaning agent, such as Simple Green, should be sprayed onto a cloth and then applied to clean covers. Never use acetone, mineral spirits or harsh chemicals.

  6. SURGE PROTECTORS ARE A MUST FOR ALL SEWING MACHINES! Recommended protection of at least 1000 joules. We have lots of electrical storms here, make sure to protect your investment with a quality surge protector.
